It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
